George's World Tour South of Stoke - Day 14
I had the best nights sleep of the holiday last night, despite the boy racers who turned up on the opposite side of the car park. They were the sitting in cars comparing engines and seeing whose car is lowered the most type of boy racers rather than the racing type (not that the car park would be big enough for racing anything except maybe tortoises or hamsters) so they didn't really cause us any problems.
We had a leisurely breakfast and then rather grumpily started our journey north. We're stopping at a site a few miles out of Weston Super Mare tonight. We spent the afternoon sitting in the sun drinking wine and washing about 6 layers of sunscreen off before having our last evening meal in George and heading for the site bar. Which wasn't open for another hour and a half when we arrived. We're now in a pub about a mile away, hoping that it's not going to fill with football fans too early in advance of the England match at 11pm.
I feel like we've had a bit of a lazy holiday, but looking back we've been quite busy really. 2 days canoeing, pony trekking, a dawn photography expedition and 2 days sea kayaking, plus some touristy sightseeing and beach going.
We've seen loads of wildlife that we don't normally see on our regular excursions - kingfishers, marsh harriers, grass snakes (swimming!), two different types of woodpecker, seals and a peregrine falcon. The seals were the highlight though.
We will be keeping an eye on eBay for bargain sea kayaks and stand up paddle boards over the coming months.
I'm going to sign off for the trip now, as the barman has just asked us if we're emailing each other, and Claire has nearly finished her pork scratchings so will no doubt be getting bored.
