Ireland Trip - Day 6
Only a short blog today - not much to say really!
We woke up to a nice morning and had a leisurely breakfast before the moment of truth of starting George up. But everything was fine, and only went to show that there is nothing wrong with George at all, apart from having a stupid owner.
We drove round the coast, past the town of Dingle and round Slea Head, and stopped for lunch in a tiny car park with a lovely view over Brandon mountain, the highest point on the peninsula. Then I had another power nap (after ensuring George's lights were off), and read my book for a bit.
We have been rather lazy on this holiday so far, I think partly because its easy to be lazy in a nice comfy campervan, and partly because we haven't actually made any plans of what we want to do. Normally, we know we want to climb particular mountains or something, but for some reason we hadn't thought about anything like that before this trip.
We're determined to do something more energetic tomorrow, and I am going to make a timetable when I've finished this blog.
We have been for a bit of a walk today. By the time I'd finished napping and reading, it was almost 4pm and too late to do a proper walk. We decided to walk into the nearby village (Ballyferriter) and see what was there. I had an ulterior motive, as I was hoping there might be a pub there. It turned out that there were at least 4 pubs so we were spoilt for choice. We had a pint of Guiness in two of them before heading back to George for dinner.
I've never had a pint of real draught Irish Guiness in a real Irish pub before, and I wasn't disappointed.
We had some of the German butcher's beef burgers with onion, tomato and soda bread, and some roasted bananas stuffed with Cadbury's flake for pudding. I dread to think how many calories we've consumed today.
So tomorrow, we are going to get up early, have a quick breakfast, and go for a proper walk, not along a road and not to a pub, before heading off to Cahersiveen where were are meeting Claire's mum Jen and her other half Andrew.
